My sisters and I went to our grandma’s gravel driveway. It had nice smooth rocks. We selected about two or three of the best looking ones. Some people collect rocks as a hobby. Others do it for their profession. But we were doing it for a higher reason. You see, our grandma could change rocks into candy.
After we had our treasured rocks, we ran into the house and found Grandma in the kitchen. Since she was doing the dishes and had on an apron. Just a few moments before, she had given us the often anticipated word to “go ahead and find some rocks” for her to change into candy.
Julie handed her rocks to Grandma. She said, “Change ‘em into candy, please Gwammah.”
Grandma took the rocks from Julie’s little hand and closed her
fists to conceal them while she worked her magic. We watched in amazement as she said the magic words and did the magic movements.
“Hocus pocus, diddley docus. Change these rocks to candy.” While she said this, she spun around and waved her arms in the air. As she repeated the words, “Change these rocks to candy.” She passed her hands through the big pockets in her apron. (Of course, the younger kids didn’t notice that part.) She said some more magic words and then suddenly, she opened her fists.
CANDY!
There they were, sitting on her palm. Three pieces of candy! Since the pieces had once been real rocks, they even looked like real rocks. Julie thanked Grandma and then took her candy.
