Camping With Christopher (Part 1 of 4)

As a family, we went on many vacations together. We went to Bryce Canyon, Zion’s Canyon, and Arches National Park. Another place we went was about an hour from our home in Salt Lake and that was American Fork Canyon. It wasn’t world famous like Bryce Canyon but it was nice and cool, had tall stately mountains and it was pretty.
When we went to American Fork Canyon, we used the same camping spot by the creek, with lots of trails across the stream for hiking and all sorts of fun games that we made up. At night the gentle roar of the creek lulled us all to sleep, and the fresh morning air woke us up at dawn.
But that all changed when my brother Christopher came along.
For one thing Chris was wilder than me and my four sisters put together. My mom had bought a special harness to put on Christopher that was attached to a fifty foot rope. This allowed Chris to move around freely, but not wander off. He would go to the end of the rope and pull on it, trying to go a little farther. He hated it.
We used to sit lazily by the campfire at night and roast marshmallows. But when Christopher came along, we had to watch him every second. He often found a stick to poke into the fire and then pulled it out, smoldering, to watch the tip leave a trail of smoke as he waved the stick wildly through the air.
