You would think that nothing else would happen to Chris after that, but it did. Later, my sisters and I were skipping rocks across the creek. We weren’t very good at it, but we got better as time went on. We didn’t notice Chris wandering out in front of us. One of my sisters let loose with a big rock.
Smack!
Right on Christopher’s forehead. Well, Mom and Dad took Chris down the canyon and to hospital in American Fork while the rest of us stayed in the tent until they got back late that night.
When they got back to camp, Chris had stitches and a bandage wrapped around his head. The next day when he was feeling better, he ran around the camp in just his diaper. We found a feather and stuck it in his bandage. He looked like a little Indian.
Vera and I went to the river bank and found a rock that we thought looked like the one which hit Christopher. When we got home we mounted it on a stiff piece of cardboard. For several months after that, Christopher was proud to display the rock as the one that hit him while on the camping trip.
