The year that I was eleven, we excitedly drove the three miles to their house, we squirmed in our seats in the crowded station wagon. We could spot the cars that were already parked by Grandpa’s house and we knew who had already arrived for the party. We jumped out of the car as soon as Dad brought it to a stop. We ran into the house all dressed in our good clothes that Mom made us put on for the party.
Grandma Winnie was at the door ready to give us a kiss as we walked in. Grandpa was seated in an easy chair and he greeted us merrily, but we were glad he didn’t need to kiss us. The house was wild with excitement as children ran everywhere and the adults talked to each other. The dog, Muffy, ran all over the house trying to deal with the excitement, until someone put him outside.
As more aunts, uncles, and cousins arrived the scene got even wilder with talking, laughing and the playing of the children. Then it was time to begin.
