A Visit to Granny Annie’s House (Part 2 of 4)

My sisters and I walked slowly into the front room of the house. We passed a large table where we had eaten once for Thanksgiving. My eyes quickly caught hold of the old radio. It was about the size of a large television and was made of wood with detailed carvings on it. It had big knobs and dials. When dad came in he showed me how to turn the old radio on. It took awhile to warm up, but it worked.
Granny Annie and Marvin came into the front room too. The grownups sat on the old sofas and chairs while the kids still looked around the room. There where lots of pictures on the walls. Some were paintings and others were old photographs of Granny Annie’s children when they were young. We had been in this house many times before, but it seemed we always discovered something new each time we came.
I noticed a little shoe on a shelf. It was made of metal. Mom explained that it had been Granny Annie’s shoe when she was a little girl, and she had it bronzed to preserve it. Granny Annie asked us to put on a little program. She always loved to have us do something for her. We kids usually did a little song or dance at the spur of the moment. This time Dad asked me to stand up and show how tall I was getting to be. [The old radio pictured is not at all like the one Granny Annie had. Her's was dark wood and it was more rectangular, but this picture gives the general idea.]
A picture of Granny Annie's house when it was fairly new, and with Bill and Sadie in front of it.
