In the early seventies they decided to change the name of the school library to “The Media Center.” The word Media Center implied more than just books but all sorts of educational tools. There was a room attached to the library -- oops, Media Center, called the audio -- visual room. In it were located enough TV’s for every classroom in the school. These were placed on high metal stands which allowed the teacher to wheel each TV to the front of class so each child could
see the picture clearly. We watched many programs on these TV’s, from science programs to Apollo moon launches. Once we even watched the World Series.
The audio -- visual room also had movie projectors. I thought it was always a treat to watch the educational movies. First of all you didn’t have to do any real school work. And it was dark so you could pick your nose or adjust your underwear right there in class! Sometimes, the teachers from the other classes would bring their kids in our class. When the movie was over, we would all clap and cheer for the movie, just as if we were in a theater. One day a teacher had enough of this nonsense. She yelled, “This is an educational movie. You do not clap for educational movies!” We never clapped for any movies after that.
